HPV vaccination may be included in Russia's vaccination calendar in 2027

A new type of vaccination may be included in the preventive vaccination calendar in 2027. We are talking about a drug against the human papillomavirus (HPV), said Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko.

Thus, during the period announced by the minister, it is planned to begin vaccinating girls aged 12-13 years.

The HPV vaccine produced by the Russian company Nanolek was released into civilian circulation and will arrive in medical institutions at the end of September 2026. The volume of the first batch was 30 thousand doses.

It is known that the production of a full cycle vaccine was launched a little less than a year ago.

The first applications for the supply of the domestic drug have already been received from customers from the Magadan, Kirov, Kaliningrad, Murmansk and Moscow regions, Krasnoyarsk Territory and other regions of the country. In addition, private clinics are also showing interest in the vaccine.

It is noteworthy that before the development of this drug, the Russian market was completely dependent on foreign supplies. The emergence of our own production now guarantees reliable protection of citizens from dangerous types of the virus.

The drug itself is called “Tsegardex”.

As the Nanolek press service told Lente.ru, the vaccine is intended to prevent diseases caused by four types of HPV: 6, 11, 16 and 18. Types 16 and 18 are associated with the development of cervical cancer and a number of other cancers, and types 6 and 11 are the main cause of anogenital warts.

The vaccine is quadrivalent. It is available in the form of a suspension for intramuscular administration and is also intended for the prevention of the development of anogenetic condylomas, precancerous conditions and cancer of the genitals and anal canal.

The full production cycle of Tsegardex, from the cell bank stage to the release of the finished dosage form, is organized at the Nanolek biomedical complex in the Kirov region. Production started in October 2025 with the participation of the Federal Industrial Development Fund (IDF). The total investment in the project amounted to 7.5 billion rubles, of which 950 million rubles were provided by the Federal Investment Fund in the form of a preferential loan under the Development Projects program for the purchase of high-tech equipment.

The vaccination course consists of three doses, the second of which is administered two months after the first, and the third four months after the second.

Human papillomavirus is the most common sexually transmitted infection. It can cause skin and genital warts, increases the risk of cervical cancer in women and penile cancer in men, as well as a number of other cancers, and can cause tumors in the mouth, rectum and mouth, depending on the type of virus.

HPV vaccination is recommended for both girls and boys before the onset of sexual activity. However, an adult can also use the drug up to 45 years of age after consulting a doctor.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in order to avoid developing cancer, a comprehensive approach is required, which also includes vaccination.
