Mediterranean episode: orange vigilance for rain, floods and storms in several departments

A Mediterranean episode is taking place. After Lozère, Gard and Hérault, Ardèche is in turn placed on orange alert due to a risk of rain, floods and storms, Météo-France announced on Tuesday September 29 at 4 p.m. This vigilance will be active during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. Météo-France warns that the “storms and heavy rainfall” will first fall on the Cévennes, “extending to the plains, allowing us to speak of a Mediterranean episode”.

Gard and Hérault are placed on orange “flood” alert from Tuesday afternoon. “In the Cévennes, if the rainy episode marked as orange alert is more intense and/or more lasting than expected, the accumulations could cause a move to the 'red' alert level,” specifies Météo-France. “The rainy intensities in the Cévennes will be particularly marked with 50 to 80 mm possible in one hour and the accumulations over the episode will be around 200/300 mm, or even locally 350 mm,” adds the meteorologist.

School transport suspended in Gard on Wednesday

In the Gard, the prefect has decided to suspend all school transport for the entire day on Wednesday, the prefecture announced in a press release, particularly highlighting the risks of flooding of several rivers.

The Hérault prefecture, for its part, warned of "very intense storms" on Wednesday, and reminded the population of the instructions: postpone their trips, do not go underground, move away from waterways and do not engage, on foot or by car, on a submerged route.
