Possible return of taekwondo championships to Russia starting in 2027

The decision came during an extraordinary meeting of the federation in the South Korean city of Chuncheon, according to what RIA Novosti reported.

It is expected that the tournaments will begin being held in Russia starting in 2027, after the 2026 competition schedule has been fully approved.

The decision comes in the wake of the International Olympic Committee’s recommendation to international sports federations to allow Russian athletes to return to competitions, while leaving the issue of hosting tournaments within Russia to the decision of each international federation individually.

Last January, the World Taekwondo Federation allowed Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments with their country’s flag and playing the national anthem. The decision also included the junior category alongside athletes in adult competitions.
