The Kremlin welcomes Donald Trump’s “good idea” on an energy truce

The Kremlin on Tuesday welcomed Donald Trump's “good idea” on a truce on energy infrastructure strikes carried out by Ukraine and Russia, announced by the American president as already accepted by the two countries.

“We saw President Trump’s post. We think it's a good idea. A good initiative,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at his daily briefing, adding: “We are always on the side of peaceful solutions.”

Donald Trump said on Monday that Ukraine and Russia had committed to no longer hitting opposing energy infrastructures, a day after attacking kyiv for its attacks on Russian oil refineries. The US president blamed the rise in global diesel prices mainly on "the war between Russia and Ukraine", and not on Iran.

While Moscow has been hitting numerous gas stations in Ukraine for months, including in kyiv in recent days, Ukraine is targeting Russian oil infrastructure in an attempt to dry up the Kremlin's financial windfall.
