'Potential danger' warning from Saudi Arabia for Jeddah, Mecca and Taif

Saudi Arabia sent a "potential danger" warning to residents of the cities of Jeddah, Mecca and Taif in the west of the country.

In messages sent through the National Emergency Early Warning Platform, the Saudi Arabian Civil Defense Directorate asked the public to take shelter in safe areas and follow official security instructions.

Authorities did not share details about what the potential danger was that caused the warning.

“STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS”

Civil Defense asked residents to remain calm and immediately move to the nearest safe point.

Citizens were advised to go inside a building if possible and wait in interior areas away from windows. It was requested not to leave safe areas until the danger passed.

Authorities also called for people to stay away from open areas, windows, balconies and rooftops. People outside were asked to enter the nearest building or take shelter behind a solid obstacle.

A WARNING WAS ALSO MADE TO DRIVERS

Drivers who received the emergency message were asked to stop their vehicles at a safe point. Civil Defense stated that vehicles should be stopped, especially away from bridges and tall buildings.

The public was asked to stay away from crowded areas and dangerous areas and to follow the developments only through official channels.

CONFLICTS WITH THE Houthis INCREASE

The emergency warnings come as conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthis escalates.

The Houthis have carried out a series of missile and drone attacks on cities and infrastructure facilities in Saudi Arabia in recent days.
