Russian national hockey and curling teams are admitted to the Universiade 2027

The Russian student hockey team, as well as Russian curlers, have been admitted to the 2027 World Winter Universiade. The country's Minister of Sports, Mikhail Degtyarev, announced this in his Telegram channel.

“The International University Sports Federation (FISU) has expanded access for Russian athletes: even in those sports where international federations maintain complete restrictions, FISU applies a neutral status mechanism. This opened the way to the tournament for our young hockey players,” said Degtyarev.

The competition will be held from January 15 to 25 in the Chinese city of Changchun. In May 2026, the FISU Executive Committee allowed Russian athletes to participate in competitions under the auspices of the organization.

At the end of July, the IIHF Council rejected the request for the return of Russian national teams to tournaments in the 2026/27 season. This happened despite the fact that on July 7 the IOC Executive Committee temporarily restored the status of the Russian Olympic Committee and canceled recommendations on restrictions for Russian athletes.
