MOSCOW, August 21 - RIA Novosti. Elena Rybakina, a native of Moscow representing Kazakhstan, failed to reach the semifinals of the WTA 1000 tennis tournament in Cincinnati (USA), the prize fund of which exceeds $7.4 million.

In the quarterfinal match against Poland's Iga Szwiatek (7th seed), world number two Rybakina refused to continue the match in the first set with the score 1:4 due to an injury to her left ankle.

If the Kazakhstani tennis player reached the finals of the tournament, she could top the world rankings. After her defeat, the first racket of the world before the US Open will remain Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, who previously lost to Czech Sara Beilek and failed to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament.
