China has investigated and dealt with more than 2,100 major accident hazards in coal mines this year, a year-on-year increase of 56%

China News Service, Beijing, September 24 (Reporter Chen Su) China's State Mine Safety Supervision Bureau announced on the 24th that since the beginning of this year, mine safety supervision and inspection departments at all levels have investigated and dealt with more than 2,100 major accident hazards in coal mines, a year-on-year increase of 56%.

On the same day, the State Mine Safety Supervision Bureau held a regular press conference for the third quarter to introduce the progress of mine safety production work.

Zhu Lin, deputy director of the Coal Mine Safety Supervision Department of the State Administration of Mine Safety Supervision, said at the meeting that the "Eight Hard Measures" ("Hard Measures on Preventing and Containing Major Production Safety Accidents in the Mining Sector," to be announced in 2024) have played an important role in stabilizing the safety production situation in mines. However, some regions and enterprises still have problems such as insufficient attention to implementation, formality, discounting, and slow advancement. In response to these problems, the State Mine Safety Supervision Bureau continues to increase its efforts and adopt targeted measures to vigorously promote the implementation of the "eight hard measures".

Zhu Lin said that the State Mine Safety Supervision Bureau issued a special notice to urge all localities and coal mining enterprises to learn lessons from the accident, compare them item by item, comprehensively review the implementation of the "eight hard measures", check for omissions and fill in the gaps, and conduct self-inspections and corrections. Promote mine safety supervision and inspection departments at all levels to coordinate the three-year action to tackle the root cause of mine safety production and the key tasks of "eight hard measures", rely on law enforcement inspections, and comprehensively promote review inspections.

At the same time, supervision and guidance were strengthened, and the final evaluation of the three-year campaign to address the root causes of mine safety production was organized for all mining-related provinces and regions, and the implementation of the "eight hard measures" was included in the key evaluation content. A total of nearly 1,000 hidden problems and hazards were discovered. "Since the beginning of this year, mine safety supervision and inspection departments at all levels have investigated and dealt with more than 2,100 major accident hazards in coal mines, a year-on-year increase of 56%, and investigated and dealt with more than 16,000 major accident hazards in non-coal mines, a year-on-year increase of 99%."
