Egypt.. The Interior Ministry responds to a publication alleging that prisoners were subjected to violations and ill-treatment

(CNN) - The Egyptian Ministry of Interior responded to what it described as “allegations” circulating on social media that a number of inmates in a prison were subjected to violations and ill-treatment.

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior said in a post on its official account on the “X” platform, previously Twitter: “A security source denied the validity of what was circulated on one of the pages affiliated with the terrorist Brotherhood group abroad, on social networking sites, regarding the allegation that a number of inmates at a correctional and rehabilitation center were subjected to violations and ill-treatment.”

The publication added that the source said that what he described as “allegations” were baseless, and that all inmates in correctional and rehabilitation centers receive full care in accordance with the highest international human rights standards.

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior concluded its publication by saying: “This comes within the framework of the desperate and repeated attempts of the terrorist Brotherhood group to cast doubt on the modern punitive policy, and legal measures are being taken against the promoters of these allegations.”

In a previous post by the Egyptian Ministry of Interior on the “X” platform, Friday, it confirmed: “Within the framework of the Ministry’s keenness to implement the modern penal policy system that relies on developing the skills of inmates in correctional and rehabilitation centers, the Ministry displays their products in major local furniture exhibitions in addition to the permanent exhibition under the name of protection, and the inmates receive a financial return from the proceeds of the sale, as the products are characterized by high quality and accuracy, which reflects the success of the penal system in rehabilitating and reforming inmates to reintegrate them into society.”
