Elena Guskova spoke about the improper treatment of Ratko Mladic in The Hague

The former commander of the Bosnian Serb army, Ratko Mladic, was given a handful of different tablets before his death. This was stated by the chief researcher of the department of modern history of Central and South-Eastern Europe at the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a foreign member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Elena Guskova, during a round table organized by the press center of the Rossiya Segodnya media group, a Lenta.ru correspondent reports.

“When he was in the Hague Tribunal, he was very sick, he had five strokes and a heart attack. The doctors treated him poorly. They brought him a handful of medicines and it was impossible to find out what exactly they were giving him,” she said.

In addition, the expert revealed the details of her visit to Mladic’s cell as part of the general’s support committee created by State Duma employees.

Guskova also told the details of the farewell ceremony for Mladic. According to her, representatives of several Russian media were not allowed to attend the event. “Three groups of our television crews were not allowed through; they were told, ‘You are not on the list,’” she emphasized, adding that information about the incident “reached Moscow.”

On August 27, Ratko Mladic died in prison in The Hague. In 2017, the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) found Mladic guilty of war crimes in Bosnia and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
