Typhoon No. 25 approaches Kanto, Koshin, and Tokai regions, warning of heavy rain and strong winds
Large and strong Typhoon No. 25 is expected to move north over the sea to the west of Hachijo Island in the Izu Islands on the morning of the 21st, and after making a substantial connection to the Kanto region late on the same day, it is expected to move away toward the eastern Tohoku region. The Japan Meteorological Agency has called for strict vigilance in the Tohoku-Pacific region, Kanto-Koshin, and Tokai regions against landslides, flooding of low-lying areas, and rising river waters due to heavy rain, as well as warning against strong winds and high waves. A linear precipitation zone has been predicted for the Kanto-Koshin and Tokai regions, with the possibility of occurrence in Shizuoka Prefecture until the evening of the 21st, in the Izu Islands, Kanagawa and Yamanashi prefectures until the evening, and in Ibaraki, Saitama, Chiba and Tokyo until late at night. At Hachijojima Airport, a maximum instantaneous wind speed of 37.0 meters was observed just after 7:35 a.m., and in Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture, rainfall in the 12 hours up to 8:20 a.m. was 172.0 mm, breaking the all-time record for September at that location. As of 10 a.m., Typhoon No. 25 was traveling approximately 110 kilometers west-southwest of Hachijo Island toward the northeast at 20 kilometers per hour, with a central pressure of 960 hectopascals, maximum wind speed of 40 meters, and maximum instantaneous wind speed of 55 meters. A storm area with wind speeds of 25 meters or more is within a radius of 185 km, and a strong wind area with wind speeds of 15 meters or more is within a radius of 650 km to the east and 440 km to the west. The predicted rainfall for the 24 hours until noon on the 22nd is expected to be 250 mm in the Kanto, Tokai and Izu Islands, and 150 mm in Tohoku.
