Lost contact with 261 foreign citizens from 23 countries after mudslide on the China-Nepal border

As a result of a strong mudflow in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, contact with 261 foreign citizens from 23 countries, including three Russians, was lost, local authorities reported.

On August 26, a large-scale mudflow occurred on the Nepal side, which resulted in a disaster in the area of ​​the Gyirong (Jilong) checkpoint on the border of China and Nepal.

“Currently, as a result of an inspection after a mudflow in Gyirong County, it has been revealed that contact with 261 foreign citizens has been lost... including three Russian citizens,” representatives of local authorities said at a press conference.

According to authorities, the missing also include 104 Nepalese citizens, 49 Indian citizens, 33 Latvian citizens, 18 US citizens, 15 British citizens, six Canadian citizens, six Australian citizens and four South African citizens.

In addition, contact was lost with three Malaysian citizens and three German citizens, two Irish citizens, two Estonian citizens, two French citizens, two Dutch citizens and two New Zealand citizens, as well as one citizen from Kazakhstan, Finland, Lithuania, Portugal, Ukraine, Spain and Hungary.
