MOSCOW, September 29 - RIA Novosti. Reading lying on the stomach is harmful to children's vision, since the distance between the book and the eyes is greatly reduced, warned Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, founder of the association of children's eye clinics "Yasny Vzor" Igor Aznauryan.
“Children love to break the rules and read from the screen as they please, for example, lying on the bed. The child’s hands holding a book tremble under the influence of the heartbeat and breathing. This means that the eyes, while viewing content, are constantly adjusting so that the image is in focus, which causes overwork,” Aznauryan said in an interview with Lenta.ru.
According to the doctor, the distance between the book and the eyes should be at least 40 centimeters. The specialist recommended that parents properly equip the child’s workplace - there should be good, uniform lighting, light on the left for right-handers and on the right for left-handers, without shiny or reflective surfaces.
“It is important to observe the time of use of devices. For children under the age of 7 years, watching TV per day should not exceed 30-40 minutes. Working at a computer and using a smartphone (doing homework, watching a movie, communicating on social networks, computer games) should also not exceed 40 minutes per day,” Aznauryan noted.
