The Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to return to the UK

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are planning to return to the UK six years after they quit their royal duties and moved to the US, the BBC reports.

The Daily Telegraph and Sun newspapers were the first to report this. According to them, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan intend to move from California to the UK at the end of August - to a private, not royal residence outside London.

Their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, are due to start school in the UK in September.

King Charles III was notified of the move on Sunday, BBC News reported. There are currently no plans for either Prince Harry or Meghan to return to their duties as members of the royal family.

Prince Harry's representative and Buckingham Palace have not yet commented on the matter. A source close to the couple confirmed the authenticity of the reports, writes Reuters.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their children visited the king in July, but their move was not discussed.

According to the BBC, Charles III did not know about their move until last weekend, but he is glad to be able to see more of the prince's family privately.

Prince Harry and Meghan are not expected to return to official status; they will remain private citizens.

Prince William and Princess Catherine were also informed of their plans.

Prince Harry and Meghan left the UK and ceased their royal duties in the spring of 2020.

Since then, family relations have been strained, and a visit to the King and Queen Camilla in July was a key event, notes BBC News.

The palace described the meeting at the king's private home in Gloucestershire as a "private family event." The king saw his grandchildren for the first time in more than four years.

Previously, Prince Harry and Meghan had not been together in the UK since 2022, when they attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

The couple's safety has long been a source of tension as the Duke of Sussex's request for police protection was rejected.
