A criminal case was opened after the death of a worker at a mine in Severouralsk

A criminal case for violation of industrial safety requirements, resulting in the death of a person, was initiated after the death of a worker as a result of a collapse at a mine in Severouralsk, reports the press service of the Sverdlovsk region SUSC.

On Saturday, the regional prosecutor's office stated that at about 04.40 Moscow time (06.40 local time) a local rock collapse occurred at the Cheremukhovskaya-Glubokaya mine near Severouralsk at a horizon of 1040 meters. The body of a man was pulled out from under the rubble without signs of life.

“A criminal case has been opened on the grounds of a crime provided for in Part 2 of Article 217 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of industrial safety requirements resulting in the death of a person through negligence),” the statement says.

The department noted that the punishment for this crime can be up to five years in prison. The investigation has inspected the scene of the incident, questioned witnesses, and requested documentation. The body of the deceased has been sent for examination.

The head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Sverdlovsk Region, Valery Gorelykh, said that the identity of the deceased was established, this is a 42-year-old local resident Oleg Kravchuk, he left a widow and a child, the management of the enterprise will provide assistance to his family. Gorelykh also expressed condolences to the colleagues and relatives of the deceased.
