Three-term lawmaker appointed as new policy committee chairman of the People Power Party

It was announced on the 19th that three-term lawmaker Lim Lee was appointed as chairman of the People Power Party's policy committee.

According to party officials, the People Power Party plans to raise a motion to appoint Rep. Lim as the policy committee chairman at the general meeting of lawmakers on the afternoon of the 20th and receive approval.

The position of Chairman of the Policy Committee was vacant for over two months as floor leader Jeong Jeong-sik, who was the immediate past Chairman of the Policy Committee, was elected as the new floor leader on June 10.

In relation to this, there has been talk that the appointment may be being postponed due to disagreements between Representative Jang Dong-hyuk and floor leader Jeong Jeong-sik, the two top leaders. It is known that Representative Jang's intentions played a greater role in Rep. Lim's appointment as policy committee chairman.

According to the party constitution, the chairman of the policy committee must be nominated singularly after consultation between the representative and the floor leader and must be ratified at the general meeting of members.

The Policy Committee Chairman, along with the representative and floor leader, is classified as an ex officio supreme member and has voting rights in the Supreme Committee, which is the decision-making body for party affairs.

Rep. Lim is a former labor activist who served as vice-chairman of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions. After being elected as a proportional representative in the 20th general election in 2016, he ran for and was elected in the Sangju and Mungyeong constituencies of Gyeongbuk in the 21st general election. He also won a gold badge in the 22nd general election and was elected to the third term.

Taking advantage of his expertise from the labor world, he served in the National Assembly's Environment and Labor Committee for most of his legislative activities, and served as chairman of the Finance and Economic Planning Committee in the first half of the 22nd National Assembly.

In the party, he held positions such as deputy floor leader, emergency response committee member, chairman of the party's labor reform special committee, and chairman of the climate crisis response special committee.
