Three candidates for the 38th Jogye Order general secretary election confirmed

All three candidates running for the election for the 38th General Secretary of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism passed the qualification screening and were confirmed as candidates.

The Central Election Commission of the Jogye Order held a meeting on the afternoon of the 19th and announced that it had concluded that there was no problem with the candidacy of Monk Gyeongyeon (#1), Monk (#2) Jeongnyeom, and Jinwoo (#3).

Accordingly, all three candidates will be able to participate normally in the election to be held on the 3rd of next month from 1 to 3 pm at the Korean Buddhist History and Culture Memorial Hall in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

However, there is a possibility that Monk Gyeon, who served as the abbot of Seonunsa Temple, and Monk Jeongnyeom, who served as the abbot of Woljeongsa Temple, will be unified, so there is a possibility that the final election will be a contest between one of these candidates and Jinwoo, who is running for a second term as the head of the General Affairs Center.

This election, which elects the general secretary for a four-year term, will be held by 321 electoral votes, including 81 members of the Central Order, the legislative body of the Jogye Order, and 240 members, 10 each from 24 parish headquarters across the country.

Electors for each diocese will be elected through the general assembly of each diocese from this day to the 23rd.
