Changhua Council suspected of inviting election dinner, prosecutors petitioned to detain Xie Dianlin and his parents

The Changhua Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the "suspected case of a parliamentary invitation to an election meal". After the interrogation, Changhua County Speaker Xie Dianlin and his parents Xie Xinlong and Zheng Rufen requested detention. In this regard, Zhang Yumeng, chairman of the Taiwan Youth Community Association, pointed out that Xie Dianlin and his parents were caught in a bribery storm. Even if Congressman Xie Dianlin is re-elected, the Xie family may not be able to retain the county magistrate and even the speaker.

Zhang Yumeng posted on Facebook that Xie Dianlin hosted a banquet at the Changhua County Council on June 23. There were more than 10 tables inside that day, and those who came to eat were mainly "local people from Xihu," including the district chief and farmers' association cadres. Xie Dianlin himself was present, as was his mother and former legislator Zheng Rufen. By such a coincidence, Xie Dianlin's cousin, Concubine Chen Zhen, who is representing the Kuomintang to elect the mayor of Xihu Town, and Wei Pingzheng, who is coming from the Kuomintang to elect the mayor of Changhua County, are both here. He questioned, "So why on earth do you treat a group of Xihu locals to a meal for free in the Changhua County Council before the election?"

Zhang Yumeng pointed out that on July 1, Wu Yinning questioned, who paid for these meals and drinks? If the county council pays, doesn't Xie Dianlin use public funds to elect for his cousin? According to the Xie Dianlin Service Office, this group of local people first visited the council and then stayed for dinner. The money was "provided by the service office" and no money from the council was used.

Zhang Yumeng further pointed out that the Changhua District Prosecutor's Office had already started to take action. On July 24, Liu Kunlong, Xie Dianlin's former important aide, was suddenly interviewed by the Changhua District Prosecutor's Office. Liu Kunlong used to be the confidential secretary of the Changhua County Council, and also served as the general manager of the Changhua County Meat Market. He even ran for the mayor of Changhua in the last local election.

He said that yesterday, the prosecutor's office carried out a large-scale search of Xie Dianlin's residence. The Changhua District Prosecutor's Office took away Xie Dianlin and the elders of the "Changhua Xie Family" Xie Xinlong and Zheng Rufen. They determined that the three were suspected of "voting bribery" and arrested them in court. They petitioned the court for detention, causing a major earthquake in Changhua's political scene. Not only the three members of the Xie family, but also a cadre named Liu from Xie Dianlin's service office and a secretary to the speaker of the House. The prosecutor also believed that there was a possibility of "escaping, destroying evidence, colluding with accomplices and witnesses," and requested for detention. The cousin Chen Zhenfei was also listed as an accomplice involved in election bribery. However, the prosecutor believed that detention was not necessary, so they posted bail.

Zhang Yumeng said that Wei Pingzheng immediately used the ninjutsu "cutting technique" today. Wei explained that it had only been more than a month since he announced his election for county magistrate, and he didn't know many people. If he knew there was a dinner party somewhere, he would take the initiative to gain exposure. However, when I went there, I only had to toast, introduce each table, sit at the main table, take a photo, and then leave. He believed that according to Wei Pingzheng, he had no idea what the purpose and reason of the dinner party was. He could only say that Wei Pingzheng was indeed a lawyer. He would rather say that he was just attending the party than that he had "no idea what the dinner party was about."

Zhang Yumeng pointed out that it has been 17 consecutive years since Xie Dianlin was elected as the Speaker of Changhua County in 2009. This time the Xie family fell out because their parents tried their best to prevent Xie Yimin from running for Changhua County Magistrate. They were afraid that the local government would displease him. "The elder sister becomes the county magistrate and the younger brother becomes the speaker."

He believes that after the Kuomintang nominated Wei Pingzheng, the Changhua election had entered garbage time, but now Xie Dianlin and his parents have been caught in a bribery storm. Even if Xie Dianlin is re-elected, the Xie family may not be able to retain the county magistrate and even the speaker.
