Bad weather in Vietnam: floods and landslides in the north of the country, three victims

The bad weather emergency continues in northern Vietnam, where heavy rains and floods have caused widespread flooding, forced thousands of people to abandon their homes and caused at least three victims due to a landslide that swept away a house, as reported by the local press.

The rainfall caused watercourses to overflow and flooded large areas of the provinces of Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa, among the most affected by the wave of bad weather, where thousands of homes were submerged or damaged, while numerous roads were blocked, isolating some rural communities.

Significant disruptions were also recorded in the capital Hanoi, where water had invaded numerous urban arteries, causing severe traffic slowdowns and transport problems.

The emergency also concerns the agricultural sector. Thousands of hectares of cultivated land, in particular rice fields, ended up underwater, with significant damage to production and livestock.

Army and rescue service teams are engaged in operations to assist the population and monitor the areas most exposed to landslides and mudslides, with further rainfall expected in the next few hours.

Vietnam is among the Asian countries most exposed to extreme weather events and in recent years has seen an increase in the frequency and intensity of floods and tropical storms.
