Bad weather and weather warnings in Italy: disruptions and landslides in Lombardy and Liguria

The alerts

A weather warning from the Civil Protection has assessed an orange alert for large sectors of Liguria and part of Emilia-Romagna for today. Yellow on the entire territory of Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Umbria and on sectors of Liguria, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Marche and Tuscany.

Bad weather in Lombardy, many inconveniences in the Como area

A violent storm hit Como last night with several landslides and landslides along some of the city's roads. Debris and mud spilled onto the roadway of Via Oltrecolle, the final stretch of the state road that connects the Larian capital with Lecco. The road was closed to allow for safety operations. Via Monte Grappa, in a residential area, is also closed, along which firefighters report the risk of a gas substation collapsing. Problems, again relating to the presence of mud and debris along the line, also at the Como Camerlata railway station with inconveniences to railway traffic which are added to those resulting from a derailment of a freight train which occurred yesterday evening around 9pm in Milan Greco Pirelli, which today has already led to the cancellation of some Trenord trips. Average delays of 30 minutes are estimated.

Provincial interruption in Stresa

The Verbano Cusio Ossola area was also affected yesterday: a storm caused disruption to traffic and the interruption of traffic along the provincial road that connects Stresa to Brovello Carpugnino and to the A26 motorway junction. Due to adverse weather conditions, a large tree collapsed on the road near the hamlet of Someraro. The collapse did not involve any vehicles or cause any injuries. The storm cell hit the Alto Lago area and the Ossola area in particular, touching the Arone area with more moderate rainfall.

The situation in Tuscany

A disturbance transiting Tuscany is expected today, with rain and thunderstorms starting from the north-western areas and then extending to the central areas. Locally, the phenomena may also be accompanied by gusts of wind and hailstorms. The Regional Civil Protection Operations Room has issued a yellow alert for strong thunderstorms and hydrogeological-hydraulic risk of the minor network which will be in force until 3pm in the north-west of the region and from 9am until the end of the day in the central, inland and coastal areas. The extreme south of Tuscany remains excluded from the alert.
