Istanbul Airport's 4th main runway will be put into service tomorrow

In his written statement, Uraloğlu gave information about the track in question, the opening of which is expected to be attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Stating that Istanbul Airport currently serves with a total of 5 runways, three of which are main and two spare, extending in the north-south direction, Minister Uraloğlu said, "We will put the 4th main runway of Istanbul Airport into service tomorrow. With the commissioning of our 4th main runway, we will increase our total number of runways to 6. Our new runway will also be the first east-west runway of Istanbul Airport." he said.

Uraloğlu pointed out that the new concrete runway was built with a length of 2 thousand 820 meters and a width of 45 meters.

"We will shorten taxi and air stay times"

Referring to the contribution of the new runway to flight operations, Uraloğlu said:

"We will shorten taxi times and air stays, especially on domestic flights and eastbound routes. Thus, we will save fuel and time. We will increase operational diversity even in adverse weather conditions. We will also maximize the landing-takeoff safety margin and on-time take-off rates. With its location close to the hangar areas, it will also allow general aviation operations to be carried out faster and independently."
