Navy's newest 3,600-ton submarine Seo Hee to be unveiled for the first time ahead of launch this fall

The Navy's newest 3,600-ton submarine, 'Seohee', revealed its interior for the first time on the 15th ahead of its launch this fall.

The Seo Hee, the second ship of the Jangbogo-Ⅲ batch-II (Jang Yeong-sil class), has significantly strengthened its strike capabilities by increasing the hull length and armament load compared to the existing batch-Ⅰ (Dosan Ahn Chang-ho class).

The hull length increased from approximately 84m to 89m, and the number of vertical launch tubes that can launch submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) ​​was expanded from 6 to 10.

Hanwha Ocean explained that it has secured the world's longest submersible ability among diesel submarines by combining an air-independent propulsion system (AIP) and lithium-ion batteries.

The combat control room is equipped with one penetrating attack periscope and one non-penetrating periscope each to enable target search even in emergency situations.

On this day, the 5th Ulsan-class batch-III (Chungnam-class) ship 'Pyeongtaek', which is being discussed as a candidate for the U.S. Navy's new frigate, was also unveiled at Hanwha Ocean's Geoje business site.

The 3,600-ton Pyeongtaek ship uses domestically produced equipment for major detection equipment, combat systems, and armament, including a four-sided fixed multi-function phased array radar (MFR).

The U.S. delegation from the Korea-U.S. Integrated Defense Dialogue (KIDD), which recently visited Korea, also visited the shipyard and inspected the Ulsan-class Deployment-III and Hanwha Ocean's shipbuilding capabilities.

Hanwha Ocean promoted Jang Bogo-III Deployment-II as a strategic platform targeting overseas markets, and emphasized localization technology tailored to the needs of the country where it was introduced as a strength.

The Ulsan-class Batch-III is also seeking to enter the U.S. ship market by citing its fast construction speed, which takes about 30 months from steel cutting to delivery to the Navy, as its competitive edge.
