Malaysia-based gambling site development team leader sentenced to three years in prison

The site development team leader of a 300 billion won gambling site operation organization based in Malaysia was sentenced to prison.

According to the legal community on the 13th, Chief Judge Ji Yun-seop of Cheongju District Court's Criminal Division 3 sentenced Mr. A (40s) to three years in prison and ordered him to collect 893 million won in proceeds of crime, who was recently arrested on charges of membership and activities in a criminal group and violation of the National Sports Promotion Act (opening gambling).

Mr. A is accused of receiving an offer to work together from the head of the gambling site operation organization in July 2019, leaving for Malaysia, and working as a development team leader to develop and maintain the site's computer system until February 2025.

This organization was found to have been operating 9 gambling sites, including sports Toto, worth a total of 32.28 billion won, based in the Kuala Lumpur area of ​​Malaysia since around 2016.

Chief Judge Ji said, "The defendant claims to have worked simply as a member of the development team, but he received a salary of up to 18 million won per month, which is more than that of an ordinary development team member," and ruled, "We decided on the sentence based on the fact that the defendant was in charge of essential work in operating a gambling site and obtained a large amount of criminal proceeds by participating in crimes for a long period of time."
