A court in St. Petersburg fined an entrepreneur 30 thousand rubles for selling windshield washer fluid based on methyl alcohol.

Physico-chemical examination revealed that the liquid contains almost 33% methyl alcohol, which is dangerous to health and life.

The fact of sale of a dangerous reagent was proven by the materials of the administrative case.

MOSCOW, September 25 – RIA Novosti. A court in St. Petersburg fined 30 thousand rubles for an entrepreneur who sold windshield washer fluid at his gas station based on methyl alcohol, which is dangerous to health and life, according to materials reviewed by RIA Novosti.

Police officers seized 415 five-liter plastic canisters containing green liquid at the gas station, with the inscription “Frost Clean-30 low-freezing reagent.”

A physical and chemical examination revealed that the liquid was made on the basis of methyl alcohol, the content of which is almost 33%.

The judicial act notes that methyl alcohol has a negative effect on the nervous and vascular systems. If methanol vapor is inhaled or comes into contact with the skin, it can cause blurred vision and dizziness, and if ingested, it can cause a sharp decrease in blood pressure and liver damage, which can be fatal.

The businessman explained to the police that he received the antifreeze from a friend as repayment of a debt; it was simply stored at the gas station and was not sold. According to him, the liquid was distributed to “citizens providing services for snow removal, fuel delivery and others, as a “compliment”.

The court, however, considered the fact of sale of the reagent proven, which is confirmed by the materials of the administrative case - interviews with witnesses, inspection of the scene of the incident, photographic materials.
