Brief retelling from RIA II
Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Tourism and Development of Tourist Infrastructure Timur Kanokov proposed to study the issue of mandatory installation of bear-proof containers in public recreation areas in the predator’s habitat areas.
Kanokov considers it necessary to tighten the regulations for the removal of waste from tourist sites, especially in the evening.
The deputy proposed creating a unified federal set of recommendations for tourists visiting bear areas, with clear prohibitions, and making these rules available in digital services.
MOSCOW, October 3 - RIA Novosti. The situation with bears coming out to populated areas and tourists requires a systematic approach, for example, the installation of bear-proof containers in places of public recreation, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Tourism and Tourist Infrastructure Development Timur Kanokov (“New People”) shared his opinion in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
“The situation with the increasing frequency of bears visiting populated areas and on tourist routes requires a systematic approach. It would be advisable to work with the regions and Rosprirodnadzor on the mandatory installation of bear-proof containers - with lids and locking mechanisms - at all parking lots and in places of public recreation in the predator’s habitat areas,” Kanokov said.
The deputy added that it is also necessary to tighten the regulations for the removal of waste from tourist sites, especially in the evening, when animals are most active. This is not a bureaucratic measure, but a basic condition that has proven effective in world practice, Kanokov emphasized.
The politician, in addition, noted that there should be a unified federal set of recommendations for tourists visiting bear areas, which should clearly state the prohibitions: do not leave food in tents and parking areas, do not approach the bear, do not try to feed it for the sake of a shot.
According to Kanokov, it is important that these rules are available not only on paper, but also in digital services - when registering a route, purchasing a tour, or reserving a place in a national park.
“The tourism industry should be included in this work: tour operators and guides are obliged to immediately report encounters with a predator to the relevant services and suspend movement along the route until the threat is eliminated,” the deputy added.
The deputy concluded that the problem that has arisen is not a one-time surge, but a consequence of population growth. The answer, in his opinion, should be long-term: cleanliness on the routes, a culture of tourist behavior and operational coordination of all services.
