A 33-year-old man surnamed Wang in Taichung City had an argument with his father. He actually took out a modified pistol that had been hidden for many years from the cabinet. He fired once into the ditch and then twice into the sky to threaten his father. The police were informed and arrested him. The Taichung District Court recently found that Wang illegally stored lethal firearms and fired in public places. He should be sentenced to 7 years in prison.

The verdict pointed out that on the afternoon of August 22, 2025, Wang Nan had a quarrel with his 67-year-old father over work issues at his factory in Nantun District. He lost control of his emotions for a moment. He ran to the cabinet and took out a modified pistol, loaded three rounds of bullets and fired one after another.

Upon receiving the report, the police in the jurisdiction immediately set up a task force, expanded the review of surrounding surveillance cameras, and quickly understood Mr. Wang's escape route. About 13 minutes after the incident, they arrested him at a gas station about 500 meters away from the scene, and seized a modified pistol and 7 rounds of ammunition. Mr. Wang confessed that the bullets were stored by a deceased friend nicknamed "Black Dog" in 2020. It was not until the conflict with his father that he took out the gun to commit the crime.

Mr. Wang appeared in court and stated that he had been beaten by his father since he was a child. The long-term accumulation of growth shadows made him unable to think rationally and solve problems peacefully when encountering problems. He asked for a reduced sentence in accordance with the provisions of "compassionate circumstances" in the Criminal Law. The judge believed that Mr. Wang helped store guns for five years and fired a gun in a public place. It is difficult to see what special circumstances warrant sympathy. However, he committed the crime temporarily after a dispute with his father and had no premeditation. Compared with someone who possesses a gun and commits a crime deliberately, the circumstances are not serious.

The Intermediate People's Court finally sentenced him to 5 years and April and a fine of 50,000 yuan for the crime of illegally storing a non-standard pistol. He was also sentenced to 5 years and 6 months and a fine of 50,000 yuan for the crime of shooting in a public place. The two crimes should be combined for 7 years and can be appealed.
