The Libyan National Unity Government reveals a terrorist cell that planned to target oil and electrical facilities

The government said that the cell was involved in carrying out attacks using suicide drones that targeted oil tanks in Tripoli and Al-Zawiya, in addition to the Al-Zawiya power station, noting that the security services were also able to thwart other plans that were, according to the statement, about to be implemented.

She explained that among the targets that the cell was planning to target was a power station south of Tripoli, as well as vital installations and political, security and military figures and leaders.

The government considered that the data revealed during the initial investigations indicate that the country was not facing isolated incidents or random acts, but rather what it described as a “widespread and interconnected sabotage plan” that systematically targeted infrastructure, energy sources, and oil and electrical installations.

She added that targeting these facilities came at a sensitive time when the country witnessed great pressure on services during the summer, stressing that the aim of these actions was to harm the capabilities of the Libyans and facilities directly related to their security and livelihood.

The National Unity Government stressed that dismantling the cell represents the beginning of revealing all the threads of the plan and its extensions, stressing the continuation of security and judicial prosecution to arrest the rest of those involved and reveal the parties that planned, financed, supported and facilitated these actions.

The government stressed that any military capacity, position, or rank will not prevent the accountability of any person proven by investigations to be involved in this case, whether inside or outside the country.

She concluded by emphasizing that the security and capabilities of Libyans are a “red line,” pledging to reveal to local and international public opinion, as soon as preliminary investigations are completed, the details of the plan, the extent of its extensions, the identity of the parties involved and supporting it, and to take legal and judicial measures against them without exception.
