US envoy and Trump's son-in-law conclude peace talks in Kyiv with Zelensky

The discussions held by US envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, were concluded on Sunday evening in Kiev with Ukrainian officials led by President Volodymyr Zelensky, after two rounds of discussion, followed by a third round of negotiations in the presence of European representatives.

After the conclusion of the talks, Witkov thanked the Ukrainian president for his country's hospitality and expressed his confidence in reaching a good solution.

Speaking about his previous diplomatic visits to Russia, Witkopf said: “It is very unlikely to reach a peaceful solution” in the absence of relations with both sides of the conflict.

While Kushner said he believes that returning to the "tripartite formula" in the future, which includes talks between the United States, Russia, and Ukraine, will be "more feasible."

“What President Trump has tasked us with, Steve and I, is to put together a peace package,” he said.

American officials are in Kiev to hold talks with Ukrainian officials, after the conclusion of extensive meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, at a time when Washington is renewing its efforts to end the war in Ukraine.

This is their first visit to the Ukrainian capital since the start of the war, and comes in light of the continuous Russian bombing of the Ukrainian capital with missiles and drones.

The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Kirilo Budanov, previously stated that representatives of the United Kingdom, France and Germany were present in Kiev.

Zelensky said during a press conference held after the first round of talks: “We want to prevent loss of life, and we want this war to end fairly for everyone, and to end in a way that ensures that the Russian aggression against Ukraine will not be repeated.”
