This year's Mid-Autumn Festival has four days of consecutive holidays, and the weather continues to be sunny and stable, triggering a wave of travel in various places. The Ministry of Transport released statistics today (26th). Comparing the land, sea and air traffic statistics on the day before last year's Mid-Autumn Festival and the first day of the consecutive holidays, the figures for double railways, highways, domestic air routes, overseas people and maritime transport, as well as the number of tourists from various places have increased across the board, with high-speed rail and domestic aviation increasing by more than 20%.
The Ministry of Transportation compared September 24 and 25 this year with the same period last year (the day before the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival). This year, the high-speed rail transported 664,000 passengers, an increase of 23.5% over the same period last year; the Taiwan Railway carried 1.574 million passengers, an increase of 10.9%; the western route of the national highway passenger transport carried 270,000 passengers, an increase of 14.4%; road traffic also increased compared with the same period last year, with the entire national highway and National Highway 5 increasing by 11.7% and 13.8% respectively.
Among them, Taiwan's high-speed rail carried about 348,000 passengers in a single day on the day before the holiday (24th), setting a new record since it was opened to traffic. It was about 10,000 more than the second-highest record of 338,000 passengers during the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2023.
Among them, the number of southbound passengers exceeded 200,000 for the first time that day, setting a new one-way travel record, 18,000 more than the one-way record (the first day of the Tomb Sweeping Day holiday in 2023). This is also the first time since the high-speed rail was put into operation that the traffic volume has exceeded a new high on the last working day before the holiday at the beginning of the transportation.
The Ministry of Transportation also pointed out that domestic air transport had 40,000 passengers, an increase of 23.2%; Taoyuan Airport passengers had 288,000 passengers, an increase of 6.0%; domestic shipping increased by 9.5%. The increase in travel demand this year also reflects the popularity of international travel. On September 25, domestic tourist arrivals reached 339,022, with a large number of tourists visiting popular attractions and theme parks.
