President Lee Jae-myung holds a meeting with civic groups... ‘Even if the methods are slightly different, the difference is not that big’

Civic group invitation meeting... “Even if we appease each other a little bit, the difference is not that big.”

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lim Hyeong-seop = President Lee Jae-myung invited officials from various civic groups to the Blue House and held a meeting on the morning of the 4th.

In his greeting, President Lee said, “I think this is the first time since December 2024 (when martial law was in place) that I have met with civil society organization leaders and activists like this,” and encouraged them, saying, “Thank you all for your hard work.”

He added, "At the beginning of my inauguration, I was so busy with various things that it was difficult to listen to your words in detail, but today I will try to listen carefully to your words."

In particular, he emphasized, "Civil society has always played a very important role in the history of democratization in the Republic of Korea," and "civil society organizations will play a very large role in the major social reforms that we must carry out in the future."

He said, "It's probably not that different from the world you want and the world I want to create. I think your dream is to create a community and world where everyone is fairly respected and lives together. The path and method to reach the goal may be slightly different, but the difference will not be large."

President Lee added, “I hope that by working together to come up with good plans, we can create a developing country where the people have hope, and a world where a fair and transparent system operates.”

Attending the meeting were Lee Seung-hoon, steering committee chairman of the Coalition for Civil Society Groups, Jo Joon-jun, policy committee chairman of the Korean Progressive Alliance, as well as officials from the Lawyers for a Democratic Society, the Economic Justice Coalition, the National Federation of Farmers' Associations, the Research Institute for People's Affairs, the National Alliance of Democratic Street Vendors, the Alliance for Independent Unification and Peace, the National Women's Solidarity, and the Federation of Korean Women's Organizations.
