American actress and singer Danielle Panettiere has died at the age of 36

The American actress and singer died at the age of 36 in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 16.

According to sources who spoke to TMZ, Panettiere allegedly took oxycodone (a powerful painkiller belonging to the opioid family) mixed with fentanyl, which is also a powerful opioid painkiller that is 50 times more effective than heroin, and a few granules of it can cause a fatal overdose.

The website reported that the star purchased several black market prescription medications, including oxycodone, from a "long-time drug dealer" she was dealing with in Los Angeles.

The star had traveled with her boyfriend, real estate agent Brian Hickerson, from Los Angeles to South Carolina, where he was born, one day before her death.

TMZ reported that the actress took several medications that she purchased in Los Angeles during the trip, and authorities believe that the pills she took on the morning of her death were mixed.

Hickerson gave Panettiere Narcan, a drug that quickly reverses the effects of an opioid overdose, after he found her unconscious.

The police are now trying to trace the deadly pills back to the person who sold them to them, according to sources who spoke to the site. To date, no one has been arrested in connection with Panettiere's death.

According to reports, Hickerson met last week with investigators from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as they continued to investigate her death. The DEA's involvement is consistent with paramedics' reports of a suspected overdose. First responders found Narcan inside the apartment where Panettiere was found dead.

Panettiere died at the end of a long struggle with alcohol and opioids, after spending eight months in a rehabilitation facility in 2020 after suffering from jaundice and being told by her doctor that “if she does not stop drinking, she will die within five years,” as she wrote in her memoirs.

Hickerson was at the scene with his brother Zachary when she was pronounced dead, according to the police report. Zach was arrested last week on a disorderly conduct charge after a bar fight, after he was mocked over Panettiere's death.

During their turbulent relationship, Hickerson faced multiple charges of domestic violence, and in 2021 he spent 13 days in custody for wounding her.

After she was declared dead, Hickerson reportedly handed authorities a "bag of medications" she was taking, according to the police report. Investigators confirmed to the Daily Mail that they responded to an emergency call from an “acquaintance” of Panettiere who described her as “unconscious.”

In a recording of the call, a receptionist described it as a "cardiac arrest," and moments later another employee said Panettiere had suffered a suspected overdose.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office said Panettiere's autopsy was completed and no signs of trauma were found on her body.
