Prime Minister Takaichi requests Ishin representative Yoshimura to amend the bill to create a deputy capital

On the evening of the 22nd, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi (President of the Liberal Democratic Party) met with Hirofumi Yoshimura (Governor of Osaka Prefecture), representative of the Nippon Ishin no Kai, at the Prime Minister's Office. The prime minister requested amendments to the bill to create a "deputy capital" that both parties are aiming to pass this session. This was done in light of the strong opposition to the bill within the Liberal Democratic Party. The ruling party will amend the bill and hasten its submission to the Diet.

The bill, compiled by ruling party officials, has a provision that would allow a referendum to be held across all prefectures in cases where the issue of establishing a special ward similar to Tokyo's 23 wards and changing the name of a prefecture to the capital is at the same time.

If the bill were enacted, it would expand the number of voters for referendums on the ``Osaka Metropolitan Plan,'' which would abolish Osaka City and reorganize it into multiple special wards, and on changing the name from Osaka Prefecture to ``Osaka Metropolitan'' to include the entire prefecture, which had raised objections from the Liberal Democratic Party.

At the meeting, it was confirmed that the two parties aim to enact a bill to revise the Imperial House Law regarding securing the number of members of the Imperial Family and a bill to reduce the number of members of the House of Representatives during the current Diet session, which ends on July 17th.
