Aleksandar Vucic announced his intention to resign as President of Serbia

Aleksandar Vucic said that in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he informed him of his intention to resign from the post of head of Serbia tomorrow. The Serbian leader wrote about this on the social network Instagram (owned by the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and is banned).

According to Vucic, he thanked Putin for his many years of cooperation and expressed hope that future Serbian presidents will pursue a responsible foreign policy.

Vucic announced that he would resign on September 27 shortly after he dissolved parliament, calling early elections for October 25. After them, he expects to once again become prime minister, a post he already held until 2017, when he was first elected head of state.
