National Election Commission accuses four people of violating local election law and political fund law

The Jeonnam-Gwangju Unified City Election Commission announced on the 1st that it has filed complaints with the prosecution and police against four individuals for violating the Political Funds Act and the Public Official Election Act in connection with the 9th National Simultaneous Local Elections held on June 3.

A, a volunteer for a superintendent of education candidate, was reported to the prosecution through the integrated election commission on charges of paying approximately 32.9 million won in election expenses, including rental costs for speech and debate vehicles, from an account in his spouse's name without going through the accounting manager.

A is also accused of promising to pay a total of 2.4 million won—300,000 won per day—to one election campaign worker, exceeding the statutory allowance and actual expenses limit of 110,000 won per day.

The Gwangyang City Election Commission filed a complaint with the prosecution against B, a volunteer at a local election candidate's camp, on charges of providing 1.43 million won in cash to an election campaign worker.

The Yeosu City Election Commission filed a complaint with the prosecution against C, a local council election candidate, on charges of spending approximately 31.6 million won in political funds, including vehicle rental costs and election campaign worker allowances, through a personal account, and paying approximately 3.8 million won to seven unregistered election campaign workers.

D, the accounting manager for another local council election candidate, was reported to the police through the Suncheon City Election Commission on charges of exceeding the election expense limit of approximately 47.5 million won by about 480,000 won (1.01%).

An official from the Jeonnam-Gwangju Election Commission stated, "Even though the election is over, we will thoroughly investigate illegal acts that occurred during the election process and take strict measures in accordance with the law and principles."
