4 workers died... New details emerged in the tornado disaster in Antalya

The incident took place yesterday at around 23:00 in Fevzi Çakmak District 6199 Street in Kepez district. A tornado broke out in Antalya city center yesterday evening, accompanied by heavy rain.

The tornado, which blew away 2 containers containing workers, also caused the tower crane, which is approximately 40 meters high, to topple over.

Upon notice, many health, firefighters, police and rescue teams were dispatched to the region. With the work of the teams, the workers in the containers were removed and taken to the hospital. In the incident, 4 workers died and 1 worker was injured.

The destruction caused by the tornado, which Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin described as "We are faced with a very interesting natural event", was captured during the day. It was observed that parts of the containers in the construction area were scattered around, the security wall of a surrounding site was damaged, and some vehicles were affected by the tornado.

It was determined that the roof of a nearby school was also affected by the tornado, and some container pieces were scattered into the gardens of surrounding sites. Rescue teams continued their work at the scene where a tower crane weighing tons fell onto the land. It was learned that the tornado occurred while the workers were watching the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby played yesterday in the container.

4 PEOPLE IN CUSTODY

On the other hand, it was stated that 4 people were detained within the scope of the investigation launched into the incident. It was reported that the identification efforts of the workers who lost their lives in the incident are continuing.

Turan Işık, one of the residents of the neighborhood, said, "The tornado rose so high that no one could see it. We heard noises and howling. My children were in front of the window. Once we realized it was too late, the whole place looked like a war zone. It was a huge disaster. The tornado dragged for meters. The disaster broke out after the rain. Containers were blown to several places. It is a painful incident. I pray God's mercy to those who lost their lives."
