AfD won the elections to the State Assembly of Saxony-Anhalt with a result of 43.8%

The right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party won the elections to the regional parliament of Saxony-Anhalt with 43.8% of the vote.

Second place was taken by the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) with 17.2% of the vote, third place by the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) with 9.3%.

The turnout in the elections was 77.8%.

BERLIN, September 7 – RIA Novosti. The opposition right-wing party Alternative for Germany, after processing all the ballots, wins the elections to the regional parliament of the German federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, the regional election commission reports.

According to preliminary data, the AfD wins 43.8 percent of the vote. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is in second place with 17.2 percent.

Third place with a score of 9.3 percent was taken by the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). It was followed closely by the Green and Left parties with 8.9 and 8.6 percent of the votes respectively.

The Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (SUV) was also able to overcome the five percent electoral threshold, gaining 5.3 percent.

Elections to the State Assembly of Saxony-Anhalt took place on Sunday with the participation of 16 political parties and 398 candidates. The turnout was 77.8 percent.

Experts agree that the results of the elections in Saxony-Anhalt, as well as the elections to the Berlin Chamber of Deputies and the Landtag of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern scheduled for September 20, will have consequences that go far beyond these states and can significantly influence the political landscape in the country.
