Iranian President Fezeshkian presents peace plan to reopen Strait of Hormuz... Request for lifting of frozen assets in the U.S.

Iranian President Massoud Fezeshkian announced on the 26th (local time) that his country's new peace plan for reopening the Strait of Hormuz has been coordinated with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

According to an excerpt from President Fezeshkian's CBS interview released by Iran's state-run IRNA news agency, he said, "If the United States accepts the offer and fulfills its obligations, we will do the same."

He emphasized that “coordination with the revolutionary leader (supreme leader) has already been achieved,” and made it clear that this plan to open the Strait of Hormuz was the consensus of the Iranian leadership.

The Strait of Hormuz, a key route for transporting crude oil around the world, is a key detonator in the military tension between the United States and Iran that has continued for nearly seven months.

President Pejesikian explained that a special team consisting of six people, including representatives of the military, parliament, and government, was formed for this discussion, and that they have full authority to make decisions related to the peace plan.

As conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Iran requested the United States to lift at least $12 billion (approximately 16.3 trillion won) worth of frozen overseas Iranian assets, lift sanctions on Iranian crude oil, and end the U.S. maritime blockade against Iran.

The U.S. government has not yet released an official position on this Iranian proposal. However, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that US President Donald Trump rejected this proposal.

Meanwhile, President Fezeshkian expressed skepticism about negotiations with the United States in an interview with Al Jazeera, an Arab media outlet.

He sharply stated, "We no longer trust dialogue with the United States because the United States' repeated attacks and sanctions followed each negotiation."

He added that Qatar and Pakistan are currently mediating between Iran and the United States and conveying Iran's message to the United States.

In addition, President Fezeshkian also expressed Iran's willingness to actively mediate to ease tensions in the region, saying, "We can help resolve the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen (Houthi rebels)."
