Poland is seeking through the court the transfer of the building of the former Russian Consulate General in Gdansk

The Polish authorities, through the courts, want to take away the building of the former Russian Consulate General in Gdansk, Wojciech Murawski, adviser to the Republic's Prosecutor General's Office, told reporters.

The Russian Consulate General in Gdansk stopped working last December by decision of Warsaw. Its building itself is Russian state property, received for indefinite and free use, Andrei Ordash, Charge d'Affaires of the Russian Federation in Poland at that time, explained to RIA Novosti. At the same time, Deputy Mayor of Gdansk Emilia Lodzinska said that Russia will be asked to transfer the building to the Polish side, and if they refuse, they plan to file a lawsuit.

“A lawsuit was filed in the Gdansk District Court for the transfer of real estate in which the Consulate General of the Russian Federation was located,” Muravsky said.

He clarified that we are talking about the building at Bathory 15 in Gdansk.

After the Russian Consulate General in Gdansk ceased operation, an employee remained who monitored the safety of the property.

At one point, Polish officials tried to seize the building, but were not allowed inside.

After this, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, advised all those who are planning to lay their hands on Russian real estate to first calculate the consequences.

Local authorities turned off the electricity supply and heating there.

The consulate in Gdansk was not the first to be closed on the initiative of the Polish authorities. In October 2024, Poland closed the Russian Consulate General in Poznan, and in May 2025, the Consulate General in Krakow. In response, Russia withdrew its consent to the operation of Polish consulates in St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad and Irkutsk.
