46-year-old woman arrested for attempting to kill acquaintance with muffin containing deleterious substance

Kyoto Prefectural Police announced on the 21st that they had arrested Kana Fujiki (46), a temporary worker from Kakimi-cho, Higashiomi City, Shiga Prefecture, on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly trying to kill an acquaintance by forcing her to eat a muffin containing a deleterious substance.

Fujiki has denied some of the charges, saying, ``I admit that I fed her the muffin, but I had no intention of killing her.''

The suspect was arrested on July 24th, in an attempt to kill his acquaintance, a 30-year-old office worker in Kita Ward, Kyoto City, by giving him a muffin laced with the poisonous acrylamide through a mutual acquaintance, causing him to eat it, causing him to become unconscious.

According to the Prefectural Police Investigation Division 1, the man was rushed to the hospital on the same day and remained hospitalized until early August. He is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. Suspect Fujiki worked at a chemical-related company. It appears that there was some trouble between the two.

Acrylamide is said to be a deleterious substance that can cause poisoning if ingested in large quantities and can cause damage to peripheral nerves.
