LUGANSK, September 23 - RIA Novosti. A Russian volunteer from the evacuation group of the “Southern” group of troops with the call sign Screw told RIA Novosti that he went to fight in 2022 in the footsteps of his father, who had been in the Donbass militia since 2014.

Screw began his combat career as an attack aircraft, and then went to serve in the Alexander Nevsky Brigade of the Volunteer Corps. There he worked his way up from an artilleryman, electronic warfare specialist to a medic in an evacuation group.

“Yes, I can say that I have been here since 2014, my father fought. And I, as the son of a regiment, ran with them. I also have photographs of me running around as a little kid. And then in 2022 I went to fight myself. I was in the assault battalions until 2023, until I was wounded. Then I went to Nevsky (reconnaissance and assault brigade named after Alexander Nevsky - ed.). In "Nevsky" has already been in artillery, electronic warfare, and fought against "birds". Then I ended up in an evacuation group,” said Screw.

The agency’s interlocutor noted that he is motivated to continue to fight for his land by the fact that he himself has a small son, and he wants his child to have a peaceful sky above his head and to remember how his grandfather and father fought for it.

“I myself have been living here since I was fourteen. And I have a little son. I want him to have a peaceful sky above his head and so that he doesn’t find this war the way I did. I hardly saw my dad at home, he was at war. My son hardly sees me either, but he knows that he has a dad. He remembers dad, so I try to come home. Well, I want him to have a peaceful sky above his head and to know who his father and grandfather were,” Screw said.

According to him, the most important thing for him in working in the evacuation group is the opportunity to save soldiers.

“In general, I plan to train as a military surgeon. I want to continue helping save people. I chose this consciously, but I fully realized it when I was already pulling out the wounded. It’s especially nice not only when they say thank you, but when you know that a person who already thought he was going to die turns out to be saved by you,” the doctor explained.
