Ural Federal University launched a pilot project for a new model of higher education

Ural Federal University was among the universities participating in a pilot project to transition to a new model of higher education.

As part of the project, UrFU opened admission to basic and specialized higher education programs, and postgraduate studies became a separate type of professional education.

The fundamental part of UrFU programs includes the Russian language, advanced mathematics and a discipline related to literacy in the field of artificial intelligence.

A pilot project for the transition to a new model of higher education at the Ural Federal University included 12 institutes; admission to basic and specialized higher education programs has already opened this year, university rector Ilya Obabkov told RIA Novosti.

UrFU is among the universities participating in a pilot project to transition to a new model of higher education. As part of the “pilot”, students receive basic higher and specialized higher education; postgraduate studies have become a separate type of professional education.

“Ural Federal University is the largest university in the pilot project. The pilot site of our university included eleven institutes in Yekaterinburg and the Technological Institute in Nizhny Tagil. This year, for the first time, we opened admission to programs of basic and specialized higher education. We launched experiments on the duration of study. Thus, in the basic higher education we have 46 five-year programs, five with a duration of 5.5 years, another four are six-year, the rest have proven the need to maintain a cycle of four years,” – said the agency's interlocutor.

“In addition, the uniqueness of our approach is that the Russian language is included in the fundamental part of the programs, mathematics is strengthened, and a discipline related to literacy in the field of artificial intelligence is included for two semesters,” Obabkov added.
