Minister of Education Choi Kyo-jin will attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Kangwon National University Semiconductor Joint Research Institute' held at Kangwon National University on the afternoon of the 9th.

The Ministry of Education is promoting the establishment of a joint semiconductor research center in each region to expand the foundation for nurturing semiconductor talent in non-metropolitan areas that lack education and research infrastructure.

The groundbreaking ceremony for Kangwon National University's Semiconductor Joint Research Institute is the first among the six national university regions. It will be built with a total floor area of ​​4,124 m2 and 4 floors above ground, with a total project cost of 19.4 billion won, and is scheduled for completion in January 2028.

In his congratulatory address, Minister Choi said, "Kangwon National University's Semiconductor Joint Research Institute is an axis of the Virtual Fab system linked to Seoul National University's central hub and regional semiconductor joint research institutes, and will become a key base for nurturing semiconductor talent in the Gangwon region. We will continue to provide support to ensure that the construction is completed without a hitch."
