A forest, three generations watching
The state-owned Xinhua Forest Farm is located in Linhe District, Bayannur City, with a total area of 52,000 acres. Before the establishment of the forest farm, the Han, Mongolian, Hui and Tibetan people reclaimed wasteland, grazed and communicated here.
'At that time, after a strong wind, the door was often tightly blocked by sand. Everyone had to climb out the window and use shovels to clear the way bit by bit. ’ recalled Wang Zhanrong, a 78-year-old forestry worker. At that time, the area was covered with continuous sand dunes and salt-alkali, and the ecological environment was extremely fragile.
In order to resist the raging yellow sand, the state-owned Xinhua Forest Farm was established in the original Linhe County in the 1960s. After three generations of forest farm workers and cadres and masses of all ethnic groups working continuously, Xinhua Forest Farm has afforestation of 39,000 acres and planted more than 4.3 million trees. The number of sandstorm days has dropped from 136 days in 1960 to 19 days in 2023.
In the past two years, the state-owned Xinhua Forest Farm in Linhe District has won the title of ‘National Model Group for National Unity and Progress’ and the title of ‘Lucid waters and lush mountains are gold and silver mountains of practical innovation base’.

Thirty thousand builders of a dam work together
The Yellow River Sanshengong Water Conservancy Project was built in 1959. It is the only large-scale plain gate and dam project on the Yellow River that mainly focuses on irrigation. The 2.1-kilometer barrage dam and three water inlet gates ensure timely and appropriate amount of self-flow water for irrigation in the Hetao Irrigation District and the 300,000-acre Yellow River Diversion Irrigation District in Ordos City. The main canal increases the irrigation area of the Hetao Irrigation District from 2.9 million acres to 7.7 million acres.
The completion of the Sanshengong Water Conservancy Project is the result of the efforts of more than 30,000 builders from all over the country. Standing on the hub gate dam, the sculpture "Concentric Lock" in the center of the square that solidifies the consciousness of the Chinese nation's community is particularly eye-catching.

A photovoltaic panel makes the desert greener and goldier
At the site of Mengneng's "light storage + ecology" management project, continuous photovoltaic panels spread out in a blue array in the desert. The project implements the "power generation on the board, sand fixation under the board, and planting between the boards" model, combining new energy development with sand ecological restoration.
The Ulan Buh Desert Comprehensive Management Project covers a total area of 70,000 acres, with a planned total investment of 643 million yuan. Nowadays, the 400-mile "sand retaining wall" on the eastern edge of the Ulan Buh Desert is connected, the forest and grass coverage rate has increased to more than 75%, and the amount of sand transported into the Yellow River has dropped significantly.
