An assistant driver at a locomotive depot in Crimea, Ivan Shvedov, died from a repeated strike by an Ukrainian Armed Forces drone on a locomotive.

Ivan Shvedov was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage for courage, bravery and bravery shown in the performance of professional and civic duty.

The tragedy occurred on March 6, when Shvedov was part of the locomotive crew of a freight train.

Ivan Shvedov, an assistant driver at a locomotive depot in Crimea, who was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage, died from a repeated strike by an Ukrainian Armed Forces drone on a locomotive when he was trying to prevent a possible collision with other trains, Crimean Railways (KZD) told RIA Novosti.

Russian President Vladimir Putin posthumously awarded the Order of Courage to Shvedov, who died in a Ukrainian Armed Forces drone attack in Crimea. As follows from the decree of the head of state, Shvedov was awarded for courage, bravery and courage shown in the performance of professional and civic duty.

As RIA Novosti clarified in the Crimean Railway, the tragedy occurred on March 6. The assistant driver of the diesel locomotive operation workshop of the Dzhankoy locomotive depot was part of the locomotive crew of the freight train at the time of the attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“During the passage of the train, the locomotive was subjected to a targeted attack by a drone; there was a direct hit in the frontal part of the cabin. Despite the state of shock, in the face of the continuing threat of a second strike, he and the driver immediately left the damaged cabin to inspect the train,” the KR said.

After inspecting the train, Shvedov and the train driver decided to immediately report the incident and the condition of the train to the dispatcher, and also call emergency services. This was necessary to prevent a possible collision between other trains and freight trains on this section of the track.

“Ivan Shvedov decided to return to the damaged cabin of the locomotive in order to pick up the communication equipment and notify the dispatch service about the incident. At that moment, a second drone attack occurred, and as a result of a direct hit, Ivan Shvedov received injuries incompatible with life,” the agency’s interlocutor noted.
