Russians were allowed to pay for digital visas in Cairo in cash

For Russian citizens, it remains possible to purchase a digital visa at bank branches in the arrivals area at Cairo airport for cash US dollars, the embassy reported.

The standard procedure provides for payment by cards of the international payment systems Visa and Mastercard.

ISTANBUL, September 15 - RIA Novosti. After the introduction of digital visas to enter Egypt, Russians can still pay for the visa in cash at Cairo International Airport, the Russian Embassy in Egypt told RIA Novosti.

“The cost of a visa is $36, where $30 is a visa fee, $6 is a service fee. The standard procedure is to pay for a digital visa with bank cards of the international payment systems Visa and Mastercard. At the same time, according to the clarifications received from the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Russian citizens still have the opportunity to purchase a digital visa at bank branches in the arrivals area at the airport for cash US dollars,” the diplomatic mission reported.

Citizens of 118 countries, including Russia, can obtain an electronic entry visa to Egypt in three ways, including through a mobile application and self-service terminals at Cairo airport, the head of the information technology sector at the airport, Haitham Abdelhamid Salam, previously told RIA Novosti. Previously, tourists arriving in Cairo could only purchase a paper visa at authorized bank branches at the airport.

Earlier, the Egyptian government announced that the pilot operation of a new digital system for issuing entry visas on arrival at Cairo International Airport began on August 1, 2026. The system is currently operating in experimental mode. In the future, it is planned to gradually expand to other airports in Egypt.
