Trump sends Wyckoff and Kushner to Moscow and Kiev with plan to end war in Ukraine

(Central News Agency, Washington, 4th Comprehensive Foreign News Report) U.S. President Trump said today that he is sending special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kiev with a plan to end the war in Ukraine that has lasted for more than four years.

Agence France-Presse reported that Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 triggered the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II. The Trump administration's move represents Washington's latest attempt to break the diplomatic deadlock.

A senior Ukrainian official told AFP that the special envoy is expected to arrive in Kiev on the 6th.

The US news website Axios reported that the two envoys will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow tomorrow, and then meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kiev on the 6th. Russia's Kremlin declined to comment.

Trump told reporters that the two negotiators will try to assess whether there is room for progress toward peace.

As Washington plunges into war with Iran and peace mediation efforts stall, Moscow and Kiev intensify long-range strikes, driving civilian casualties to levels not seen since the war began.

Trump said: "I sent Wyckoff and Kushner, two excellent negotiators. They performed very well, and we sent the envoy over to see if we could make a difference. We have a good chance of achieving our goal."

"The two men went with a proposal to end the war," he noted.

Trump did not say whether the package would include ceding territory to Ukraine, but he has floated similar ideas before, adding: "We have a vision for peace."

This trip will be the first visit to war-torn Kyiv by Weikov, a real estate business friend, and Kushner, his son-in-law, since Trump returned to the White House last year and pledged to resolve the conflict.

Weikov and Kushner, who have participated in ceasefire negotiations between Gaza and Iran, have visited Moscow many times for diplomatic contacts.

As the United States restarts its diplomatic efforts, Russia and Ukraine are violently bombarding each other with long-range missiles and drones.

Zelensky pointed out that just hours before Trump announced the news, a Russian drone had just hit the headquarters building of the National Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the center of Kiev.
