该航线由波音787-9宽体客机执飞，航班号MF821/822，每周三、周五、周日各一班。去程航班北京时间0时50分从厦门起飞，当地时间6时35分抵达伦敦；回程航班当地时间12时35分从伦敦起飞，北京时间次日7时抵达厦门。

此前，往返厦门与伦敦的旅客需经荷兰阿姆斯特丹、法国巴黎或中国香港等地中转，全程需20个小时以上。

厦门边检总站高崎边检站副站长陈锦来介绍，截至9月5日，今年以来厦门口岸出入境旅客量近450万人次，其中外籍旅客超80万人次。今年2月17日起，中国对持普通护照的英国公民实施单方面免签入境政策，英国公民来华商务、旅游更加便利。“‘免签+直飞’的双重利好，将为双向客流增长提供有力支撑。”
