President Lee's approval rating has fallen for five consecutive weeks... Negative evaluation gap is outside the margin of error for 3 consecutive weeks

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Ahn Jung-hoon = A public opinion poll was released on the 17th showing that President Lee Jae-myung's approval rating for his performance of state affairs has fallen for five consecutive weeks, hitting the lowest level since his employment.

As a result of a Real Meter survey of 2,511 people aged 18 or older across the country from the 10th to the 14th at the request of the Energy Economy News, the positive evaluation of President Lee's performance of state affairs was calculated to be 43.0%, down 0.3 percentage points from last week.

Negative evaluations were 54.1%, up 1.1 percentage points from last week, outperforming positive evaluations outside the margin of error (±2.0 percentage points at the 95% confidence level) for three consecutive weeks. The proportion of respondents who responded ‘I don’t know’ was 2.9%.

Realmeter analyzed, “The confusion surrounding the real estate tax reform plan and the public backlash against youth housing sparked by the controversy over youth housing in abandoned buses led to a cumulative decline in policy trust, leading to a decline in positive evaluations.”

In a political party approval survey conducted on the 13th and 14th among 1,004 people over the age of 18 nationwide, the Democratic Party of Korea recorded 47.9% and the People Power Party recorded 33.1%.

The Democratic Party rose 3.3 percentage points compared to the previous survey, but the People Power Party fell 4.5 percentage points.

Realmeter pointed out, “It is interpreted that the Democratic Party’s upward trend was driven by the fact that the convention effect was in full swing and the unity of party members and supporters was strengthened as the national convention approached.”

On the other hand, regarding the People Power Party, he explained, "Despite the criticism of the confusion over the government's real estate tax reform plan, it did not lead to a clear return, and rather, the intensifying conflict within the party weakened support, and the approval rating of conservatives and regional bases weakened at the same time, leading to a decline."

The approval rating of the Fatherland Reform Party was 2.5%, and the approval rating of the New Reform Party was 2.2%. The Progressive Party was 1.9%, other political parties were 2.3%, and independents were 10.1%.

Both surveys were conducted using a wireless automated response method.

The sampling error of the survey on the approval of the president's performance of state affairs was ±2.0%p at the 95% confidence level, and the response rate was 4.0%. The response rate for the party support survey was ±3.1%p at a 95% confidence level of sampling error, and the response rate was 3.5%.
