Taean-gun expands support for acquisition of certification for coal-fired power plant workers to 5 types

Firefighting equipment, energy management, hazardous materials industry engineer + forklift operation, gardening management

(Taean = Yonhap News) Reporter Jeong Yun-deok = Taean-gun, South Chungcheong Province, announced on the 23rd that it has expanded the categories eligible for certification acquisition from 3 to 5 to help workers at coal-fired power plants that are being phased out successfully transition to labor.

Forklift operator and (pet plant) horticulture manager were added to the existing firefighting equipment engineer, energy management engineer, and hazardous materials industry engineer.

Forklift operator technician was ranked first in preference (64%) in a demand survey conducted among workers at Taean Power Plant's partner companies.

Written training is conducted at the Taean Power Plant Headquarters, and practical training can be received at the Chungnam Campus (Hongseong) of Korea Polytechnic University.

Horticulture manager is an occupation that can be linked to jobs in the ecology, healing, and tourism fields specialized in the Taean region.

Coal power generation workers can select one course per person and receive up to 500,000 won in actual tuition fees.

Regardless of whether you pass the test or not, you can apply with a certificate of completion to the Taean-gun Job and Social Economy Team (☎ 041-670-2720) by December 11th.

Taean-gun plans to connect with specialized organizations to help stable re-employment of workers at partner companies facing power plant closures.

A military official said, “We have discovered and applied the training that power plant workers most want and need,” and added, “We will continue to lay a solid stepping stone for customized jobs so that workers are not left out and can find new paths in the just energy transition process.”

Taean Power Plant Headquarters plans to complete the power generation of 8 units (10 units if the 2040 coal phase-out goal is applied) by 2037, starting with Unit 1 in December of last year.
