Gyeongsan apartment arson suspect dies... Deaths increase to 5

Mr. Ryu (71), who set fire to an apartment management office in Gyeongsan-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, killing or injuring residents, died 28 days after the incident.

According to the Gyeongbuk Police Agency on the 20th, Mr. Ryu, the arson suspect, died at a burn specialty hospital in Daegu around 5 p.m.

With Mr. Ryu's death, the total number of deaths in this arson incident increased to five.

He has been under investigation on charges of spraying flammable substances and setting fire to the apartment management office where he lives on the 23rd of last month, killing four people, including residents and management office staff, and injuring three (hyeonju building arson fatality).

The police have been investigating the motive for the crime, believing that on the day of the incident, Mr. Ryu started the fire out of anger during an argument at the management office.

The police plan to close the case with 'no right to prosecute' as Mr. Ryu has died.
